Qasida fi Madh al-Shaykh al-Akbar is Imam Yusuf al-Nabhani's poetic ode in praise of Shaykh al-Akbar Muhyi al-Din Ibn al-Arabi — the great Andalusian Sufi master and founder of the Akbari school. Composed against the background of the late-Ottoman polemics that had targeted Ibn al-Arabi for renewed criticism, the ode marshals the explicit defences of the Shaykh al-Akbar offered by Imam al-Suyuti, Mulla Ali al-Qari (in his later more favourable position), Shaykh al-Sharani, and many others of the major Sunni-Sufi masters, presenting the case for the orthodoxy of the Akbari tradition in tight Arabic verse.

About The Author

Imam Yusuf b. Ismail al-Nabhani (1265-1350 AH / 1849-1932 CE) was a Palestinian Hanafi judge who served in the courts of Beirut under the late Ottoman empire. Born in Ijzim near Haifa to a family with deep scholarly and Sufi lineage, he received his classical training at al-Azhar in Cairo under masters including Shaykh Ibrahim al-Saqqa and Shaykh Yusuf al-Barqawi. He devoted his enormous literary energy to defending and propagating the traditional Sunni-Sufi heritage in an age of rising reformist challenge — composing more than eighty works in salawat, istighatha, manaqib, theological defense, and Prophetic praise.

"قصيدة في مدح الشيخ الأكبر" قصيدةُ الإمام النبهاني في مدح الشيخ الأكبر محيي الدين ابن العربي — صوفي الأندلس الأَكْبَر ومؤسّسُ المدرسة الأكبرية. صنَّفها في خَلْفية الجدالات العثمانية المتأخّرة التي اسْتَهْدَفَت ابنَ العربي بنقدٍ مُجَدَّد. تَستحضر القصيدةُ دفاعات الإمام السيوطي والملا علي القاري (في موقفه المتأخّر الأَوْلى) والشيخ الشعراني وغيرهم من كبار أئمّة السنّة والصوفية، فتُقَدِّم الحُجَّةَ لأَرْثوذكسية المدرسة الأكبرية في شعرٍ عربيٍّ مُكْثَّف.

عن المؤلف

الإمام يوسف بن إسماعيل النبهاني (١٢٦٥-١٣٥٠ هـ) قاضٍ حنفيٌّ فلسطيني خَدَم في محاكم بيروت في العهد العثماني المتأخّر. وُلد بإجزِم قرب حيفا في أسرةٍ ذات سلسلة علميّة وصوفية، وتَلَقَّى علمَه الكلاسيكي بالأزهر على شيوخٍ منهم الشيخ إبراهيم السقّا والشيخ يوسف البرقاوي. كرَّس طاقته الأدبية الهائلة للدفاع عن تراث السنّة والتصوّف ولِنَشْره في عصر التحدّيات الإصلاحية، فألَّف ما يَزيد على ثمانين كتاباً في الصلوات والاستغاثة والمناقب والدفاع العقدي ومديح النبي ﷺ.
