About The Book
This book is a compilation from entries in at-Ta'liq al-Mumajjad - Shaykh Abd al-Hayy al-Laknawi's commentary on the Muwatta al-Imam Muhammad - which go into some detail on the narrators of the hadith and traditions in that book, most particularly their standing as scholars of hadith.
Since the majority of narrators here are among the great authorities of the Companions, the Followers, and Followers of the Followers later confirmed by al-Bukhari and Muslim and the rest of the major hadith scholars, this work will prove indispensable for the serious student of the narrators of hadith.
About The Author
Shaykh Abd al-Hayy al-Laknawi was born in Banda, India, on Tuesday, 26th of Dhu'l Qadah 1264 AH. He was a descendant of Hadhrat Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (R.A). He began to memorize the Qur'an at the age of five completing it when he was ten years old, at which age he led tarawih prayer.
He learnt both the intellectual and transmitted sciences from his father and completed his studies when he was seventeen, learning mathematics from his father's uncle and teacher Mawlana Muhammad Ni'matullah ibn Mawlana Nurullah.
The shaykh had a great love for study and writing, and wrote more than 115 works on numerous sciences, among the most famous of which is at-Ta'liq al-Munajjad.
He passed away in Rabi al-Awwal 1304 AH at the age of 39.
