Shaykh Ibrahim al-Bajuri's commentary on al-Busiri's Burda is one of the most beloved and most-used commentaries on the most famous ode in Arabic-Islamic literature. The Burda — al-Kawakib al-Durriyya fi Madh Khayr al-Bariyya — was composed by Imam al-Busiri in the seventh Islamic century after the poet, partially paralysed, dreamed of the Prophet (peace be upon him) covering him with his cloak, and awoke healed. The 160-line ode in praise of the Prophet has been recited continuously in Sunni circles since al-Busiri's lifetime, and is the single most widely-circulated Arabic poem in the world. al-Bajuri's commentary, composed in the high Azhari tradition, brings to each line a precision of explanation, a richness of reference, and a deep devotional engagement.

Continuously published since al-Bajuri's lifetime and read across the Sunni world, the commentary is one of the foundational teaching companions to the Burda.

About The Author

Shaykh Ibrahim al-Bajuri (1198-1276 AH / 1784-1860 CE) was the Grand Shaykh of al-Azhar and the foremost late-Shafii authority of his age. Educated at al-Azhar under the leading scholars of the early thirteenth Islamic century, he authored celebrated commentaries on Jawharat al-Tawhid (in kalam), on Sharh Ibn Qasim al-Ghazzi (in Shafii fiqh), and many more. He served as Grand Shaykh of al-Azhar from 1263 AH until his death.

شرحُ الشيخ إبراهيم الباجوري على بُرْدَة البوصيري من أَشْهَر الشروح على أَشْهَر القصائد في تاريخ الأدب العربي الإسلامي. صنّف البوصيريُّ بُرْدَتَه "الكواكب الدريّة في مدح خير البريّة" في القرن السابع الهجري بعد أن رأى — وقد أصابه شَلَلٌ نِصْفي — النبيَّ ﷺ في المنام يَضَع رِداءَه عليه فاستيقظ معافى. تُتْلى البُرْدَة منذ عصر مؤلِّفها، وهي أوسع قصيدة عربية تَداوُلاً في العالم. وشرح الباجوري في تقليد الأزهر العريق يَجْمَع للقارئ دقّةَ البَيَان، وغِنى المراجع، وعُمْقَ الانخراط الوجداني.

عن المؤلف

الشيخ إبراهيم الباجوري (١١٩٨-١٢٧٦ هـ) شيخ الأزهر، وإمامُ الشافعية في عصره. تخرّج بالأزهر على كبار العلماء، وصنَّف شروحاً مُعْتَمدة على جوهرة التوحيد، وعلى شرح ابن قاسم الغزي، وكثيراً غيرها. تَوَلَّى مشيخةَ الأزهر من سنة ١٢٦٣ هـ حتى وفاته.
