al-Hafiz Abu al-Qasim Ali b. al-Hasan Ibn Asakir al-Dimashqi (499-571 AH / 1105-1176 CE) was the supreme hadith and historical scholar of sixth-century AH Damascus and the author of the monumental Tarikh Madinat Dimashq — a 70-volume biographical history of Damascus that remains one of the largest works in the Sunni historical tradition. He was a Shafii in fiqh, an Ashari in kalam, and a master in the science of hadith.

الحافظ أبو القاسم علي بن الحسن ابن عساكر الدمشقي (٤٩٩-٥٧١ هـ) إمام أهل الحديث والتاريخ بدمشق في القرن السادس الهجري، وصاحبُ "تاريخ مدينة دمشق" — التاريخ الذي يقع في سبعين مجلداً، ومن أكبر كتب التاريخ السنّي. شافعي في الفقه، أشعري في الكلام، إمام في علم الحديث.

Ibn Asakir: Ibn Asakir rahimahullah - Abu al-Qasim Ali ibn al-Hasan ibn Asakir al-Dimashqi (499-571 AH / 1105-1176 CE) - was the supreme hadith scholar and historian of his era in the Levant. Born in Damascus into a distinguished scholarly family, he pursued an extensive scholarly journey across the Islamic world to study under the leading hadith transmitters of his time, amassing an enormous chain of transmission. A Shafi'i in jurisprudence and an Ash'ari in kalam, he returned to Damascus and devoted decades to teaching and composing what became some of the most voluminous works in Islamic historiographical literature. His magnum opus, 'Tarikh Madinat Dimashq,' is a biographical history of Damascus encompassing approximately 80 volumes and recording the lives of tens of thousands of individuals associated with the city - one of the largest single works in the Arabic manuscript tradition. He also composed 'Tabyin Kadhib al-Muftari fima Nusiba ila al-Imam al-Ash'ari,' a rigorous historical and hadith-based defense of the Ash'ari school against allegations leveled in his century, and 'al-Arba'in fi al-Hathth ala al-Jihad,' a hadith collection of forty narrations. He was recognized in his lifetime as the Hafiz - master hadith scholar - of Syria.

Anas b. Muhammad Adnan al-Sharafawi: Anas b. Muhammad Adnan al-Sharafawi is a contemporary Damascene scholar and muhaqqiq (verifier and editor of classical texts) whose work centers on the disciplines of creed, logic, and Sufism. He teaches within the Ash'ari tradition in theology, giving lessons on 'aqida and logic, among them al-Bayjuri's celebrated gloss on the Jawharat al-Tawhid, and he is active in transmitting these foundational sciences to students. He has prepared more than fifty critical editions, the bulk of them for Dar al-Taqwa in Damascus and several flagship titles for Dar al-Minhaj, the Jeddah and Beirut house known for high-quality editions of Shafi'i and Ash'ari texts. For Dar al-Minhaj he edited al-Qushayri's al-Risala al-Qushayriyya, the most widely circulated classical manual of Sufism, and Imam al-Ghazali's al-Iqtisad fi al-I'tiqad, a key statement of Ash'ari theology. His other verified editions include al-Sanusi's Umm al-Barahin (al-'Aqida al-Sughra), al-Bayhaqi's al-I'tiqad wa al-Hidaya ila Sabil al-Rashad, and Ibn 'Abbad's commentary on the Hikam of Ibn 'Ata' Allah. His editions are appreciated for careful collation of manuscripts and a clear, accessible layout that serves both seminary students and general readers approaching the classical literature of theology and the spiritual path.
