About The Auhor
Shaykh Muhammad 'Ali Al-sabuni is one of the leading scholars of Sunni Islam in the modern era. A specialist in the knowledge of Tafsir (Exegesis of the Holy Qur'an), he has authored one of the most widely accepted Tafsirs of the Qty'an entitled Safwat aI-Tafasir (The Choicest Selections from the Books of Exegesis). Since its publication in 1978 and with more depth than the renowned Talsir al-Jalalayn, Safwat al-Tafasir has quickly become the celebrated Tafsir for beginners. It is recommended in Islamic Seminaries worldwide as a reliable reference point to acquire the orthodox Sunni understanding of the Qur'an.

About the author
Muhammad Ali al-Sabuni: Muhammad Ali al-Sabuni (1930-2021 CE) was a Syrian scholar of Qurʾanic exegesis and the Islamic sciences, born in Aleppo into a family of religious learning. He studied at al-Azhar in Cairo, returned to teach in Syria, and later spent much of his career in the Faculty of Shariʿa at Umm al-Qura University in Makka, where he lectured for nearly three decades. He was Hanafi in law and Maturidi in creed. He is best known for Safwat al-Tafasir (The Choicest of Commentaries), a three-volume work that distills and synthesizes the major classical exegeses, such as those of al-Tabari, al-Razi, al-Qurtubi, and Ibn Kathir, into a clear, ordered commentary. Widely used by students, it remains one of the most popular single-author tafsirs of the modern period; the MeccaBooks selections on Surahs al-Rahman, Yasin, al-Mulk, al-Waqiʿa, and others draw from it. His al-Tibyan fi ʿUlum al-Qurʾan is a concise and much-taught primer on the Qurʾanic sciences, and he also wrote on Islamic inheritance law and on the infallibility of the prophets, defending the inherited understanding against modernist criticism. Valued for clarity and accessibility rather than novelty, his works brought the classical exegetical tradition within reach of a broad readership. He died in Yalova, Turkey, in 2021.
About the translator
Rashad Jameer: Rashad Jameer is a contemporary translator of classical Islamic texts, based in Toronto, Canada. He recommitted to his faith in his early twenties and took up the study of Arabic, the Quran, hadith, and Hanafi and Maliki fiqh with scholars in Canada, before continuing his training in Cairo, Egypt, and in Tarim, in the Hadramawt valley of Yemen. He is best known for rendering works of devotion and hadith into accessible English, frequently in bilingual editions that set the Arabic text alongside the translation and add explanatory notes and appendices. Much of his published work centers on love and reverence for the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. He translated Imam Yusuf al-Nabhani's collection on the virtues of the Prophet and his nation, a gathering of forty narrations, as well as related titles on the merits of sending prayers upon the Prophet and on the unique qualities of the Prophet and his community. He also translated Imam Jalal al-Din al-Suyuti's compilation of prophetic practices and prayers, published as The Work of Day and Night, and a selection from Imam al-Sabuni's Safwat al-Tafasir covering Surat al-Waqia. His translations have appeared with publishers including Wasila Press and the Islamic Texts Society. Alongside this work he teaches Islamic studies at several mosques in Toronto, making the traditional sources available to English-speaking readers and worshippers.
