About the author
Luqman Nagy: Luqman Nagy was born and raised in Vancouver, Canada. He graduated from the University of British Columbia with graduate degrees in Library Science and Education, then pursued intensive language study across the Islamic world: Turkish at Ankara University, Persian at Pahlavi (Shiraz) University, and Arabic at Umm al-Qura University in Makka. Since 1970 he has traveled the length and breadth of the Islamic world in search of traditional Muslim societies, with a particular scholarly interest in indigenous nomadic peoples. After a long career in university lecturing he retired and currently divides his residence between Turkey and Canada. His written works - among them The Book of Islamic Dynasties, My Turkish Village, and Encounters with Muslim Nomads - draw on this extensive firsthand engagement with Islamic history and culture, ranging from the perpetually wandering Muslim nomads to the preservation of Muslim identity in post-Reconquista Spain.
