Ibn Daud: Ibn Daud is the pen name of Jamal Parekh, a British Muslim author and publisher based in Leicester, England. Of Pakistani heritage and a former IT consultant, he came to writing after a text on the purification of the heart left a deep impression on him, prompting a desire to make that classical wisdom usable for busy modern readers. His best-known work, A Handbook of Spiritual Medicine, became a widely read bestseller. It is a compact, practical guide to tazkiya, the purification of the soul, that names common spiritual ailments of the heart and sets beside each one remedies grounded in the Qurʾan, the Sunna, and the teachings of classical scholars, Imam al-Ghazali foremost among them. The book was designed to be approachable for readers of all ages and backgrounds while keeping its roots firmly in the traditional sources. He followed it with A Handbook of Accepted Prayers, a companion collection of supplications, and with works for younger readers, including a tracing Qurʾan for the thirtieth juzʾ. These titles are published through Ibn Daud Books, the small family-run imprint he founded in Leicester, whose stated aim is to share the message of Islam through carefully made, high-quality books.
