About
Abd al-Hayy al-Lucknawi rahimahullah, born on 26 Dhu'l Qadah 1264 AH in Banda, India, was one of the foremost hadith scholars of 19th-century South Asia. A descendant of the renowned Companion Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (radiyallahu anhu), he demonstrated an exceptional aptitude for Islamic learning from an early age, completing memorization of the Qur'an at ten and leading tarawih prayer the same year. He pursued both the intellectual and transmitted sciences under his father, and completed his formal studies at seventeen, also learning mathematics from his father's uncle and teacher, Mawlana Muhammad Ni'matullah ibn Mawlana Nurullah. Known for his extraordinary love of study and writing, al-Lucknawi produced more than 115 works spanning numerous Islamic sciences. Among his most celebrated compositions is al-Ta'liq al-Munajjad. Despite his remarkably short life, his contributions to hadith scholarship left a lasting imprint on the Islamic intellectual tradition. He passed away in Rabi al-Awwal 1304 AH, at the age of 39.
