About
Abu al-Rahman Ghulam Dastgir al-Qasuri was a South Asian Sunni scholar active in the twentieth century CE. He composed works of polemical theology in defense of traditional Sunni and Sufi practice against the reformist and modernist currents that challenged those practices in the South Asian context. His Rajm al-Shayatin bi-Radd Aghlutat al-Barahin is a point-by-point refutation of the arguments advanced against traditional Sunni belief in reformist and modernist South Asian literature, engaging topics such as tawassul, the visitation of graves, the mawlid, the Sunni creed regarding the Companions, and the broader practices of the Sunna and Sufi heritage. He deployed the dialectical-kalam method characteristic of much Barelwi and Hanafi Sunni scholarship of his era, grounding his rebuttals in textual and logical reasoning.
