About
Dr. Abdullah Alkadi is a professor of Urban and Regional Planning at the College of Architecture and Planning, Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University (formerly the University of Dammam) in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. He earned his PhD and an MS in Urban and Regional Planning from Portland State University in Oregon, and an earlier MS from King Faisal University. He has served as Vice President for Development, Studies and Community Services at his university. A descendant of the Bani Hashim clan, Dr. Alkadi devoted more than ten years to exhaustive field research - conducting dozens of expeditions, recording GPS coordinates, measuring distances, and covering much of the terrain on foot - ultimately traversing more than 80,000 km to map the precise route of the Prophet's Hijrah from Makka to Madina. This research yielded his landmark bilingual volumes Makkah to Madinah: A Photographic Journey of the Hijrah Route and Milestones of Arabia: Discovering the Ancient Milestones from Madinah to Makkah, as well as Way of the Prophets: The Hajj and the Farewell Pilgrimage. His discoveries are featured in an immersive exhibition at the Ithra Museum in Saudi Arabia.
