About
Imam Abu Zayd Ubayd Allah ibn Umar al-Dabusi rahimahullah (367-430 AH / 978-1039 CE) was a foundational figure of Hanafi-Maturidi scholasticism. Born in Dabusiyya in Transoxiana (Central Asia), he served as a judge in Bukhara and was counted among the seven foundational jurists of the Hanafi school of his region. His Taqwim al-Adilla is recognized as one of the founding works of Hanafi usul al-fiqh and remains a standard reference in the field. His method characteristically bridges legal theory and theology, constructing the internal coherence of the Hanafi-Maturidi position through rigorous argumentation and textual reasoning. His al-Amad al-Aqsa extends this approach into the domain of creed, addressing faith, certainty, and the foundations of Sunni belief from the Hanafi-Maturidi perspective.
