About
al-Habib Ali b. Muhammad b. Husayn al-Habashi (1259-1333 AH / 1843-1915 CE) rahimahullah was a distinguished Hadhrami scholar, poet, and Sufi master of the Ba'Alawi spiritual tradition, based in Seiyun in the Hadramawt region of Yemen. He was a master of the Alawi path, known for deep spiritual realisation and love of the Prophet ﷺ. His most celebrated composition is Mawlid Simt al-Durar, a mawlid poem recounting the birth and qualities of the Prophet ﷺ that became one of the most beloved and widely recited mawlid texts across the Muslim world, particularly in the Hadhrami diaspora communities of East Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Arabian Peninsula. His Diwan gathers his devotional poetry and remains a treasured work in the Ba'Alawi tradition.
