About
Imam Ahmad b. Ahmad b. Abd al-Latif al-Sharji al-Zubaydi rahimahullah (812-893 AH / 1410-1488 CE) was a Yemeni hadith scholar from Zabid. He is best known for his al-Tajrid al-Sarih li-Ahadith al-Jami al-Sahih, an abridgment of Imam al-Bukhari's Sahih that eliminates repeated narrations. Whereas the full Sahih contains approximately 7,397 narrations with repetitions (al-Bukhari repeating hadith across chapters to derive multiple legal rulings), al-Zubaydi's abridgment presents roughly 2,230 unique hadith in their canonical arrangement. This editorial work made the Sahih more accessible for reading and study while preserving its authoritative content, and the al-Tajrid al-Sarih has served as a standard recitation text in Sunni scholarly circles across five centuries.
