About
Fadl Imam al-Khayrabadi (1244-1278 AH / 1828-1862 CE) rahimahullah was a South Asian Hanafi rationalist theologian of the celebrated Khayrabad school of Islamic thought. He was the son of the renowned Fadl Haqq al-Khayrabadi, the scholar who participated in the 1857 Indian Uprising against British colonial rule. The Khayrabadi tradition distinguished itself by cultivating a sustained and rigorous engagement with Aristotelian logic, Islamic philosophy, and rationalist kalam, all within a firm commitment to Hanafi-Maturidi doctrinal orthodoxy. His work al-Mirqah ma'a al-Mardah addresses philosophical and theological questions that arose when Aristotelian thought entered the Indian Hanafi-Maturidi school in the nineteenth century, employing the tools of Greco-Islamic logic and metaphysics while preserving Sunni-Maturidi doctrinal commitments.
