About
Shaykh Izz al-Din Ibn Ghanim al-Maqdisi rahimahullah (551-625 AH / 1156-1228 CE) was a Damascene scholar who combined mastery of Maliki jurisprudence and hadith with deep engagement in the Sufi path. Born in the sixth Islamic century, he lived and taught in Damascus, where his scholarly circle functioned as an active center of Sufi instruction and formation. Among his most celebrated works is Hall al-Rumuz wa Mafatih al-Kunuz, a specialized treatise on Sufi technical vocabulary that became a key reference in the tradition. His risala Nur al-Shumua fi Bayan Zuhr al-Juma engages the juridical and spiritual dimensions of the Friday prayer, particularly its relationship with the Dhuhr prayer it replaces, the conditions of its validity, and the virtues and proper practices of the blessed day - situating the work within the rich Sunni tradition of treatises on the fadail and ahkam of Jumu'a.
