About
Ismail Anqarawi rahimahullah was a prominent Ottoman scholar and Sufi shaykh of the 17th century. A devoted follower of Jalal al-Din Rumi and the Sufi master Ibn Arabi, he was a highly influential intellectual and spiritual figure in the Ottoman world. He served as a shaykh of the Mawlawi (Mevlevi) Sufi order and was celebrated both as an author and as a beloved guide of his community. His most widely known work in translation is 'The Lamp of Mysteries' (Mishkat al-Anwar), a commentary on the Light Verse (Ayat al-Nur) of the Qur'an (24:35), which situates Qur'anic exegesis within the cosmological and metaphysical framework of the Akbari and Mawlawi traditions.
