About
Shaykh Muhammad Akram al-Sindi al-Makki (18th century CE) rahimahullah was an Indian Hanafi hadith scholar who settled in Makka, where he became a recognized teacher and participant in the Indian-Hijazi Hanafi hadith study circle that flourished in the Hijaz during his era. This network brought together scholars from the Indian subcontinent who had settled in Makka or Madina and engaged in intensive hadith study alongside local Arabian and other scholars. His work Iman al-Nazar is a substantive methodological defense of the classical Sunni Hanafi approach to hadith scholarship, addressing standards for the categories of hasan and sahih, the relationship of solitary reports to broader scholarly consensus, the use of mursal and mawquf narrations in legal derivation, and the interpretive principles by which the Hanafi tradition integrated hadith into its legal system.
