About the author
Zanib Mian: Zanib Mian studied Molecular Cell Biology at University College London before working as a secondary school science teacher. Motivated by the lack of diverse and inclusive representation in children's publishing, she left teaching to found Sweet Apple Publishers, through which she has published numerous picture books and early readers, many of which she authored herself. Her books have been featured on BBC's CBeebies Bedtime Stories and praised by The Guardian for their contribution to diversity in children's literature. She was commissioned to write an opera for The Mahogany Opera Group, regularly features at the Bradford Literature Festival, and serves on the panel of judges for the Young Muslim Writers Awards. Her Planet Omar series, first published under the title The Muslims, is her first work for older readers and is published by Hachette Children's Group; it won the Little Rebels Award 2018 and was shortlisted for the UKLA Award and nominated for the CILIP Carnegie Medal.
About the illustrator
Daniel Hills: Daniel Hills is a contemporary illustrator best known for his work on popular Islamic children's books published by Muslim Children's Books. He is the regular illustrating partner of award-winning author Zanib Mian, and his bright, humorous, and child-friendly artwork has become a recognizable feature of her titles. Hills provides the lively doodles, expressive characters, and playful page design that run throughout the "Eliyas Explains" series, written for Muslim children reading independently. He also illustrates the "Musa & Friends" collection, a set of cushioned board books for preschoolers featuring high-contrast, vivid artwork that teaches basic Islamic phrases and everyday acts of worship, including titles such as "Musa & Friends Say Bismillah," "Musa & Friends Go to the Masjid," and "Musa & Friends Do Ramadan." Reviewers of these books regularly single out the warmth and energy of his illustrations, which help carry the educational content and make it accessible and fun for children. Through this steady collaboration, his work has reached a wide audience of Muslim families and schools.
