Hashiyat al-Amir ala Ithaf al-Murid is a layered gloss in the high Azhari kalam tradition: al-Amir al-Kabir's marginal notes on Ithaf al-Murid bi-Jawharat al-Tawhid — the commentary by Burhan al-Din al-Laqqani on his father Imam Ibrahim al-Laqqani's celebrated didactic poem Jawharat al-Tawhid, the matn that has carried Ashari kalam through the Azhari tradition for the past four centuries. The matn (132 lines of rajaz) presents Ashari theology in versified form; al-Laqqani's commentary on his father expanded it for systematic study; al-Amir's gloss on the commentary then refines the arguments, settles open questions, and brings the work into the modern Azhari teaching of kalam.

About The Author

al-Amir al-Kabir Muhammad b. Muhammad al-Sanbawi al-Maliki (1154-1232 AH / 1742-1817 CE) was the foremost Maliki authority of his time at al-Azhar and one of the leading Egyptian kalam masters of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. His works in Maliki fiqh and Ashari kalam remain foundational late-Azhari references.

"حاشية الأمير على إتحاف المريد بجوهرة التوحيد" حاشيةٌ متطبَّقة في تَقْليد الكلام الأزهري: تعليقاتُ الأمير الكبير على شرح "إتحاف المريد" — وهو شرح برهان الدين اللقّاني على منظومة "جوهرة التوحيد" لوالده الإمام إبراهيم اللقّاني، التي حَمَلت الكلامَ الأشعري عبر المنهج الأزهري طيلة أربعة قرون. تَستوعب المنظومةُ (١٣٢ بيتاً من الرَّجَز) العقيدةَ الأشعرية في صياغةٍ مَنْظومة، ويَزيدها شرحُ اللقّاني بَسطاً، ثم تُؤْتيها حاشيةُ الأمير دِقَّةً وحَسْماً في المسائل المَفْتُوحة.

عن المؤلف

الأمير الكبير محمد بن محمد السنباوي المالكي (١١٥٤-١٢٣٢ هـ) إمام المالكية بالأزهر في عصره، ومن كبار المتكلّمين الأزهريين في أواخر القرن الثاني عشر وأوائل الثالث عشر الهجري. مؤلَّفاتُه في الفقه المالكي والكلام الأشعري من المراجع الأزهرية المعتبرة.
