Sharh al-Aqida al-Sughra is Imam al-Sanusi's auto-commentary on al-Aqida al-Sughra — better known as Umm al-Barahin (the Mother of Proofs) — the most widely-circulated Sanusi catechism in the Maliki-Ashari world. The matn enumerates the divine attributes that are necessary (wajib), impossible (mustahil), and permissible (jaiz) for God, and binds each to a rational proof. The auto-commentary explains the syllogistic structure of each proof, identifies the unstated premises, and addresses the principal objections. For more than five centuries, the Aqida al-Sughra and its commentaries have been the standard aqida text of the Maliki world.

About The Author

Imam Abu Abd Allah Muhammad b. Yusuf al-Sanusi (832-895 AH / 1427-1490 CE) was a Tlemceni Maliki scholar whose creedal works became the standard aqida curriculum of the Maliki-Ashari world.
